Biography[]

Mike "Wickd" Petersen was born in Denmark on April 29, 1994. He began gaming at the age of three, playing the turn-based combat game “Worms”. This eventually led to playing games like World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike. After seeing an advertisement for the League of Legends beta, he decided to install the game, and quickly fell in love with it. Now Wickd is one of Europe’s most seasoned players, having played in all but one European LAN tournament featuring League of Legends. In Season 1 he was the first player who reached Platinum in Solo Queue.

Season 1[]

In 2010, Wickd and his former team, Dimegio Club, were recruited by SK Gaming. His first success in a major tournament was at IEM Guangzhou, where SK came 3rd behind Counter Logic Gaming and Team WE. Two weeks later, he competed at IEM New York, where the team scored a 2nd place finish behind Fnatic.

On October 20, 2011 he left SK Gaming to form a team with WetDreaM under the flag Absolute Legends, where he met Froggen. With the merger of Absolute Legends and Counter Logic Gaming, the team Counter Logic Gaming EU was formed. Wickd served as team captain for CLG.EU.

Season 2[]

Newly formed CLG.eu's first appearance would come at Kings of Europe. The team won the tournament and made a big statement by beating Moscow Five in the final. They followed this with another triumph against Moscow Five, beating them in the final of the Corsair Vengeance Cup.

A long season saw Wickd and CLG.eu face Moscow Five on a number of other occasions. The next time the two would meet was the final of DreamHack Summer 2012, where again CLG.eu came out victorious. Despite their early season dominance, Wickd and the team were beaten by Moscow Five in the final of ECC Poland.

Next up for CLG.eu were the Regional Finals, the team placed 3rd behind Wickd's former team SK Gaming and Moscow Five. The team's performance sealed them a spot at the Season 2 World Championship. In preparation for this, CLG.eu competed, and placed second at Azubu The Champions Summer 2012.

At the World Championship, Wickd and the CLG.eu team were eliminated in the semifinals after a loss to MadLife's Azubu Frost.

The team finished the season off with a 3nd place finish at the MLG Fall Championship and a 2nd place finish at DreamHack Winter 2012. At the close of the season, the team decided to split with the CLG organization and join Evil Geniuses.

Season 3[]

A new challenge presented itself to Wickd and the team in the form of the upcoming Spring Split. The team came in 4th, granting them a spot in the Spring Playoffs. Evil Geniuses lost to Fnatic in the semifinals of the tournament, but the team clinched 3rd by beating SK Gaming in the third-place match.

During this time, Wickd broke the record for most viewers of a personal stream. He had over 130,000 concurrent viewers on TwitchTV, streaming a best of 5 1v1 against sOAZ to determine who would play as the top lane all star for the EU LCS Team[22] The stream ended in a 3-2 win for sOAZ.

The following Summer Split was strangely similar to the Spring Split for EG and Wickd. A 3rd place finish secured them a spot in the Summer Playoffs. Playoff losses to Fnatic in the semifinal and Moscow Five in the third-place match saw Evil Geniuses finish 4th.

On December 10, 2013, Wickd and longtime teammate Froggen left Evil Geniuses and joined Alliance.

2014 Season[]

The start of the Spring Split was disappointing for Wickd and the team, as they consistently sat in the bottom 3 team standings, until the 8th week. From there onward, Alliance dominated the split. An overall team improvement and a number of successful
Irelia
games for Wickd propelled them to 1st place in the penultimate week, but an unsuccessful superweek saw them lose the top spot. Alliance finished in 3rd place behind SK Gaming and Fnatic.

Alliance's performance in their first split resulted in their qualification for the Spring Playoffs. In the playoffs the team lost to Fnatic in the semifinal, and then fell to ROCCAT in the third-place match.

The Summer Split saw Alliance emulate their form from the end of the Spring Split. Again impressive on
Irelia
, and now also
Shyvana
, Wickd helped the team to a 1st place finish, with Alliance staying at the peak of the rankings table for the entire split.

Following this was the Summer Playoffs, a chance for Wickd to qualify for the World Championship in his first season with the organization. Alliance placed 1st in the playoffs, beating Fnatic in the final, and secured themselves a place at the World Championship.

The World Championship saw Alliance placed in Group D along with NaJin White Shield, Cloud9 and KaBuM! e-Sports. Despite more successful games on
Irelia
for Wickd, Alliance beat each team once and lost to each team once, resulting in a 3rd place finish in the group. This meant they would not go any further in the tournament.

2015 Season[]

Alliance were the European team invited to IEM San Jose. Seeded directly into the semifinals, Wickd and the team lost their matchup to Cloud9 and tied for third place with Team SoloMid.

In order to comply with new LCS regulations, Alliance would have to change their name for the upcoming season, and they rebranded as Elements.[23] The Spring Split itself was not a success for the team, finishing in 7th place after making a number of roster changes. This meant that the team would not go to playoffs, but would qualify for the Summer Split. However, the team rebuilt itself after the split, and Wickd left the team.

Wickd then went on to create Team Gravy, and qualified for the EUCS Summer Qualifier via the Challenger Ladder. After the quarterfinals of the tournament, the team's roster was acquired by Denial eSports EU. Wickd and the team managed to qualify for the EUCS Summer Season, beating Ex Nihilo in their bracket final. The Summer Season itself was successful for Wickd and the team, finishing in 3rd place. In the Summer Playoffs, they were beaten in the semifinals by Team Dignitas EU before losing to Gamers2 in the third-place match, meaning they would not have a chance to qualify for the LCS.

Wickd and the team then participated in PGL Legends of the Rift - Season 1, where they managed to top their group. In the playoffs, they were knocked out of the upper portion of the bracket by To Infinity and Beyond before being knocked out of the lower portion of the bracket by Millenium, resulting for a 4th place finish for Denial eSports EU. Wickd left the team soon after.

He later joined E-corp Gaming, winning DoigCup 2 with the team before moving on.

Trivia[]

  • After losing an important qualifier tournament with his team (where most of his favorite champions were banned); his fellow team members asked him to start training on AP champions for the top lane so they can run the popular "Dual AP" strategy. He chose to learn
    Vladimir
    and
    Kennen
as he hated to play against these champions.
  • Favorite champions are:
    Irelia
    ,
    Renekton
    , and
    Zac
    .
  • He is known for his aggressive play style, and has been quoted as saying: "You always need to play like the enemy jungler isn't there. If you don't, you lose the lane".
  • Popularized the Season 2 Attack Speed
    Irelia
build with Berserker's Greaves, Wit's End, and Ionic Spark.
  • Spurred on by hyrqBot's tweet[24], Wickd made and lost a wager with sOAZ to decide which of them would participate in the Season 3 LCS All-Star Game in a Best-of-5 showdown.
  • Was an avid Counter-Strike and DotA fan before turning to League of Legends.
  • Was the first player in the world to reach Platinum Division.[25]
