Aykut Emre "Turkinator" Başkal is a retired League of Legends esports player, previously manager for Fenerbahçe Esports.
Biography[]
Turkinator was the coach of several Turkish teams, most notably 1907 Fenerbahçe Esports, who he led to the TCL Winter 2019 title. However, he was also infamous in the Turkish community for allegedly drophacking and DDOSing games, in addition to being generally abusive to other players.
On September 24th, 2019, a month after leaving 1907 Fenerbahçe, British police announced that he was wanted in connection with multiple computer frauds dating back to 2014, and had failed to attend a court date in the United Kingdom. He was believed at the time to still be in Turkey, but anyone with information on him in either country was urged to contact the police.[13] His Twitter account was then made private, and his current whereabouts were unknown.
Sometime around October 19th, 2019, Turkinator made his Twitter account public again and released a statement in English and Turkish addressing the charges. He admitted to having done the activities he was charged with, which consisted of hacking and exploiting bugs in an unnamed popular online game in order to generate ingame currency, which he would then sell for real money. After several years of doing this, Turkinator had been arrested and released on bail. However, the case had never come to trial, and the ongoing legal limbo had led to deleterious effects on his mental health, leading him to eventually leave the U.K. for Turkey. He expressed remorse for his actions and stated that he was going to try to resolve his legal situation.[14]
