Notes[]

  • Statikk Shiv's passive will critically strike if the associated basic attack also critically strikes.
    • Statikk Shiv's passive can also critically strike on on-hit spells that cannot critically strike such as EzrealSquareEzreal's Mystic Shot.
  • Statikk Shiv's passive does not apply spell vamp, life steal or on-hit effects.
  • Statikk Shiv's passive can not damage structures.

  • Rapid Firecannon
's passive can stack with Statikk Shiv. The Energized attack will gain Rapid Firecannon's bonus range but will trigger Statikk Shiv's bonus damage to multiple targets. Rapid Firecannon allows the Energized attack to apply to turret, meaning that it can bounce to turrets, apply Statikk Shiv's damage and critically strike turrets. However, if the Energized attack is directly used on the turret, Statikk Shiv's damage will not critically strike.

  • Runaan's Hurricane
energizes Statikk Shiv's passive at the same rate as without, even if 3 targets are hit.
  • OrnnSquareOrnn can upgrade this Item to a Mastwerwok Item:

Patch History[]

Patch 14.22

We're reworking Statikk Shiv in order to resolve some design issues: it required very specific optimizations to maximize, it was a wave clear item that also slowly chipped down opposing champions, and it sneakily supplied a lot of teamfight burst that was hard to appreciate. We're giving this item a more straightforward set of uses while still being a cheap early game wave clear item.

  • Total Gold Cost: 2900 gold ⇒ 2700 gold
  • Attack Damage: 50 ⇒ 45
  • Attack Speed: 40% ⇒ 30%
  • Electrospark: Remade - Your first 3 attacks within 8 seconds fire chain lightning on-hit, hitting up to 5 targets (including the attack target) for 60 magic damage, increased to 85 for minions/monsters (25-10s CD levels 7-12)
  • Electroshock: Remade - Scoring a takedown resets the cooldown on Electrospark

Patch 14.20

  • Attack Speed: 40% ⇒ 35%

Patch 14.19

  • Attack Damage: 55 ⇒ 50
  • Attack Speed: 45% ⇒ 40%
  • Movement Speed: 5%⇒ 4%

Patch 14.15

Statikk Shiv is stronger than people give it credit for. While it's a common purchase on Zeri, Kai'Sa, and Sivir, it's growing in popularity (and very good) on Jhin and Ashe as well. Since we're nerfing its direct competition in Kraken Slayer, we're delivering a slightly smaller tap to Shiv as well. As with Kraken, we're keeping the bonus move speed but lowering it to help melee champions chase down their prey.

  • Move Speed: 7% ⇒ 5%
  • Total Gold Cost: 2800 ⇒ 2900

Patch 14.12

Statikk Shiv is pretty powerful right now, but we expect it to take some time for players to adopt it into their builds. It's currently looking competitive on Zeri, Sivir, Kai'Sa, and Kayle, and we'll wait and see who else picks it up over time. To make this adoption a little easier, we're smoothing out its build path as Shiv doesn't need such a taxing build path.

  • Item Recipe: Scout's Slingshot + Rectrix + 1000 gold ⇒ Scout's Slingshot + Rectrix + Pickaxe + 225 gold (total cost unchanged)

Patch 14.11

Statikk Shiv landed way weaker than we intended in this update. We're aware that it feels somewhat narrow as a non on-hit item competing in the same space as those other ones. For now we're moving the item towards being a lot more stat efficient and adding movement speed to it so it can stand out better from other non-crit items.

  • Build Path: Scout's Slingshot + Hearthbound Axe + 1000 Gold ⇒ Scout's Slingshot + Rectrix + 700 Gold
  • Total Gold Cost: 2900 ⇒ 2800
  •  new Movement Speed: 7%
  • Attack Damage: 50 ⇒ 55
  • Attack Speed: 40 ⇒ 45
  • Electrospark damage: 90 ⇒ 120

Patch 14.10

Statikk Shiv is trading its energized pattern for a brand new on-kill effect. It's also no longer a crit item, but instead provides a good mix of attack damage and attack speed for champs trying to stabilize early on. It will still help with wave clear in its own way, plus potentially really shock opponents in a favorable teamfight.

  • Build Path: Noonquiver + Cloak of Agility + Kircheis Shard + 300 Gold ⇒ Scout's Slingshot + Hearthbound Axe + 700 Gold
  • Total Gold Cost unchanged
  •  removed Critical Strike Chance: 20% ⇒ Removed
  • Attack Speed: 30% ⇒ 40%
  •  new Electrospark: Killing non-champions fires chain lightning that deals 90 magic damage hitting up to 6 additional targets (3s cooldown, 500 bounce range)
  •  new Electroshock: Takedowns on champions instead deals x3 damage and has no cooldown, no bounce cap (technically 186 if you want to know), and 650 bounce range

Patch 14.7

Statikk Shiv is a bit too strong now that crit ADCs have a great late game awaiting them. So we’ve adjusted the cost so that it doesn’t hastily bring them to the late game as much as it did in the past.

  • Total Cost: 2700 ⇒ 2900

Patch 14.3

  • Total Cost: 3000 ⇒ 2700
  • Combine Cost: 400 ⇒ 100
  • Electroshock Damage to Champions: 100-180 (based on level) ⇒ 90 at all levels

Patch 14.1

  • Total Cost: 3000 (unchanged)
  • Item Recipe: Noonquiver + Cloak of Agility + Kircheis Shard + 400 gold (unchanged)
  • Attack Damage: 50 (unchanged)
  • Attack Speed: 30% (unchanged)
  • Critical Strike Change: 20% (unchanged)
  • Passive - Energized: Moving and attacking will generate an energized attack.
  • Passive - Electroshock: Your Energized Attack fires chain lightning that deals 100 - 180 (based on level) (+15% AP) bonus magic damage, increased to 150 against minions. Hits 6/9/12 targets. ⇒ Your Energized Attack fires a chain lightning that deals 100-180 (based on level) magic damage hitting up to 6 targets. Hits 6 targets.

Patch 13.19

Statikk Shiv was modified in 13.18, lowering its minion damage and increasing its stat profile. These changes landed a bit higher power than we intended, so we're once again reducing its anti-minion power.

  • Electroshock Damage to Minions: 200 ⇒ 150

Patch 13.18

Statikk Shiv has been on quite the balance roller coaster this year. Initially it was given a generous AP ratio to incentivize hybrid builds and was given extremely strong wave clear to help it stand out in its niche. Ultimately, both of these aspects were simply too game-warping. This patch, Statikk Shiv’s wave clear is being tuned to be more moderate but it’s receiving compensation as its overall power level is pretty reasonable.

  • Attack Damage: 45 ⇒ 50
  • Electroshock Minion Damage: 250-350 ⇒ 200

Patch 13.17

In 13.10, the goal behind Statikk Shiv’s AP ratio was to create another hybrid item that would suit champions who wanted to auto-attack and also had AP scaling, somewhat similar to Nashor’s Tooth and the Rageblade of old. For many hybrid-building champions (Kai’Sa, Varus), this ended up being pretty reasonable. However, LeBlanc has made it her go-to item, even after nerfing its interaction with Night Harvester, so Shiv’s synergy with AP builds has to be reduced a bit further.

  • Bonus Damage Against Champions: 100-180 (based on level) (+30% AP) ⇒ 100-180 (based on level) (+15% AP)

Patch 13.14

Statikk Shiv's minion damage has been tuned to nearly kill caster minions but not quite do it unless you're at the cutting edge of experience gain. Unfortunately, this very specific goal has meant it's easy to eclipse that mark with Minion Dematerializer. Additionally, the item can stall games with its late-game minion damage requiring Baron buff to push through. Outside of those worries, the item is pretty well balanced, so with a nerf to its wave clear comes a compensation buff to its base stats.

  • Attack Speed: 25% ⇒ 30%
  • Electroshock Minion Damage: 250-450 (based on level) ⇒ 250-350 (250 + 25 per level starting at level 7, then +12.5 per level at level 11 ⇒ 250 + 10 per level starting at level 9)

Patch 13.13

Statikk Shiv has gained a few surprising users (hello, LeBlanc) and while we're excited to see players figure out cool new ways of using the item system, it's important that items don't produce poor gameplay when optimized. Shiv has an AP ratio in order to create an item that suits hybrid builds (Kai'Sa, Kayle, Varus, and Teemo as example users), but its best users ended up being mages with long-distance dashes who used it like a souped-up Lich Bane. Shiv is meant to be a strong source of wave clear that relies on champion input to finish killing minions. We're removing the AP ratio on minions to preserve that gameplay intent and the PVP AP ratio is being dropped a bit in order to make it not clearly better than items that already serve a PVP burst purpose. It's possible that LeBlanc and Zoe still enjoy Statikk Shiv with these changes, but the gameplay around those builds should be much fairer for their opponents.

  • Energize Minion Damage: 250-450 (based on level) (+125% AP) ⇒ 250-450 (based on level) (+0% AP)
  • Energize Non-Minion Damage: 100-180 (based on level) (+50% AP) ⇒ 100-180 (based on level) (+30% AP)

Patch 13.12

Statikk Shiv is meant to be your best source of wave clear without just one-shotting the caster minions. It's still a bit underpowered, so the damage is being ramped up in early game in order to more closely align with minion health bars.

  • Energize Damage: 80-190 (Level 7-18) ⇒ 100-180 (Level 6-18)

Patch 13.11

Shiv launched a bit underpowered. Its gold efficiency is in a reasonable spot, so we're amping up its more unique aspects. While we've seen some mages like Veigar try this item out, it doesn't appear to be too powerful in their hands, so we’re leaving the AP ratio in place.

  • Energize Damage: 60-170 (levels 7-18) (+50% AP) ⇒ 80-190 (levels 7-18) (+50% AP)
  • Damage to Minions Modifier: 220% ⇒ 250%

Patch 13.10 -  Re-added

Statikk Shiv is back!!!!!! Shiv is meant to be the premier wave-clear item for crit users. Its damage scales up about as fast as minion health does and deals a moderate amount of damage to champions as well, though much less than PVP-focused items like Stormrazor.
A note on Energize stacking: All Energize items stack in the most linear way possible: The first target hit takes the normal effects from each Energize item. Statikk Shiv’s bounces only apply Shiv’s damage to additional targets.

  • Total Cost: 3000
  • Item Recipe: Noonquiver + Cloak of Agility + Kircheis Shard + 400 Gold
  • Attack Damage: 45
  • Attack Speed: 25%
  • Critical Strike Chance: 20%
  • Unique Passive - Electroshock: Your Energized attack fires chain lightning that applies 60-170 + 50% AP bonus magic damage. These Energized attacks will hit 6-12 targets, they chain to the next target within 600 range every time it deals damage, and they deal 120% bonus damage to minions.

Patch 10.23 -  removed

Shiv's chain lightning effect was either underwhelming when balanced or too strong when it felt good.

Patch 10.11

The marksman class has major durability problems, especially in the early laning phase where their power feels heavily reliant on their supports. This has been causing issues in gameplay satisfaction since a marksman's strength relies on the length of time they're alive. By increasing their mobility (via items) and base health, we feel that ADCs won't be punished so aggressively when they fail and will still have a chance to bounce back and unlock their power in fights. That being said, we've heard your concerns about the bot lane marksman champions that can also solo lane like Lucian and Vayne. We're giving them a separate set of changes which you can find more details on below. We’ve also omitted Corki, Kindred, Quinn, Senna, and Graves due to having their primary playrate in other lanes, with the understanding that Senna may be considered for similar changes in the coming patches.

MOVEMENT SPEED : [5%] 7%

Patch 9.23
Energized damage higher early, lower late. Lightning bounces increased. Lightning no longer crits.

Shiv still makes lightning, but we're removing the ability for lightning to crit. This is partially for that crit-vs-Energized split we've talked about already, but also because fully stacking Energized items (360 damage) gets you more power IE Shiv crits did previously (325 damage). Since this is still an early-to-midgame nerf, we're also folding Stormrazor's old bounce increase into Shiv's baseline. This is also a good time to remind you that Shiv no longer needs RFC to proc on turrets.

ENERGIZED DAMAGE : [60-140 (lvl 1-18)] 120
SHIV LIGHTNING BOUNCES : [5] 7
EXTRA SHOCKING Shiv Lightning can no longer critically strike

Patch 9.3

Shiv needed a little extra buff to bring it up to the level of the other Zeal upgrades.

TOTAL COST : [2800] 2600 gold
ATTACK SPEED : [35%] 40%
CRITICAL STRIKE CHANCE : [30%] 25%

v8.15
Gold cost decreased

Rapid Firecannon

Statikk Shiv
&
Runaan's Hurricane

GOLD COST : [2900 gold] 2800 gold

v8.11

TOTAL COST : [2600 gold] 2900 gold
Combine Cost : [600 gold] 800 gold

v8.6
Energized proc damage decreased at higher levels. Lightning no longer deals bonus damage to minions.

The combination of proc damage and wave clear is allowing any marksman to be their team's wave clear all on their own, making Statikk Shiv too dominant a pick over the other zeal items.

PROC DAMAGE : [60-160] 60-140
WAVE CLEAR No longer deals bonus damage to minions

v7.9

Rapid Firecannon and Statikk Shiv cannibalize each other’s strengths due to Energized proc damage not stacking between sources. We’re trying to better differentiate the two in ways that also make their combination more compelling (Long range chain lightning? We’re in there.) Shiv already had what it needed to be the burst-oriented option (remember: the lightning can crit for double the damage) so we’re tuning it to push that distinction harder.

COMBINE COST : [550] 600 (offsets component item cost changes; total cost still 2600 gold)
DAMAGE TO CHAMPIONS : [50-120 (at levels 1-18)] 60-160 (at levels 1-18)
BONUS DAMAGE VS MINIONS : [+120% (110-264 total damage)] +65% (99-264 total damage)

v6.3
Damage up.

With Rapid Firecannon's damage decreasing, Statikk Shiv's damage is going up to really push it as the one you get when you're looking to burst. Important reminder: Shiv's damage can crit (while RFC's cannot), meaning that in a heavy crit build, Shiv's ability to lay the smackdown on a close-knit group of units is nothing to sneeze at.

DAMAGE : [30 - 100] 50 - 120

v6.1
More damage to minions.

While trying to keep the relative balance between Zeal's upgrades, we decided Shiv was lagging behind as a waveclear option. No longer!

BONUS DAMAGE TO MINIONS : [75%] 120%

v5.24
Zeal and all of its items cost more.

We don’t want to delay marksmen from participating in the game for too long, but their ‘1.5 item power spike’ is presently pushing them over the edge. Zeal’s newfound cost-efficiency is one of the culprits of this early-midgame bump, so we’re taking a little off the top to keep the pacing and power-growth of marksmen one that all can keep up with.

ALL THE WAY DOWN : Total costs of all items building out of Zeal are also increased by 100

Damage from Kircheis Shard, Statikk Shiv and Rapid Firecannon no longer stack (effects still do).

As sweet as it is to chain-lightning from a million range, it’s clear that the damage from that combination is too high for the safety. We’re keeping the ability for you to stack the effects (because long-range lightning is awesome), but it’ll only take the highest damage of your combined effects to reduce their surprise burst potential.

CHOOSE IT OR LOSE IT : Now chooses the greatest damage of your Energized attacks for the first target hit, rather than all the damage.

v5.23
Damage vs champions decreased.

One half of the potent Shiv + Firecannon powercouple, we're toning down Shiv's overall damage against champions to keep it strong when pushing, but less of a power-spike when compared to Zeal's other upgrades.

MAGIC DAMAGE : [50-150 at levels 1-18] 30-100 at levels 1-18
DAMAGE AGAINST MINIONS : [+50%] +75%

v5.22

TOTAL cost : 2500 gold (unchanged)
BUILD path : Zeal + Kircheis Shard + 550 gold
ATTACK speed : [40%] 35%
CRITICAL STRIKE chance : [20%] 30%
MOVEMENT speed : [6%] 5%
SHIV MAGIC damage : [100] 50-150 (at level 18)
SHIV LIGHTNING TARGETS : [4] 5
LIGHTNING ROD Now deals 50% bonus damage to minions

v4.2

  • PASSIVE CRIT :: Passive now only critically strikes when the associated attack critically strikes

v3.03

  • Passive is no longer consumed when attacking wards

v1.0.0.152

  • Statikk Shiv added
    • +40% Attack Speed
    • +20% Critical Strike Chance
    • +6% Movement Speed
    • Unique Passive: Moving and attacking build Static Charges. At 100 Charges, your next attack expends the Charges to deal 100 magic damage to up to 4 targets. This damage can critically strike.
    • Cost: 2,500 (525)
    • Builds from Zeal and Avarice Blade
