Biography[]
Danny "Shiphtur" Le was born in the city of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, but he moved and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where he also studied at Grant MacEwan University. He has been playing League of Legends for over 3 years and he started playing professionally in late season 2 (2012). He chose to be a mid laner because it's the role he enjoys the most in the game and he believes that mid laners have the most play-making potential.
Pre-Season 3[]
On December 23, 2012, Shiphtur officially began his professional League of Legends career as an unknown rookie when he joined Team Dynamic, a well-known professional North American League of Legends team at the time, along with I am Anjo to fill the empty roles of Mid and Support, respectively. However, two weeks later, the team roster announced they were parting ways with the parent multi-gaming organization of Team Dynamic.
On January 4, 2013, Good Game University (now known as Team Coast) was founded by the former roster of Team Dynamic. Shiphtur, along with ZionSpartan, NintendudeX, DontMashMe, I am Anjo, and Pixel joined the team.
Season 3[]
In January 2013, Shiphtur and his team, Good Game University, competed in the LoL Season 3 North American LCS Spring Qualifier. In the group stage, Good Game University beat Epik Gamer and Team TowerDiveTV, while dropping one game to Team FeaR. By winning those two games, GGU advanced to the bracket stage of the tournament where they defeated Dirtnap Gaming 2-1 in a best of 3 series and secured their spot in the Season 3 NA LCS Spring Split. Unfortunately, Shiphtur was unable to play in the LCS with his team due to visa issues and he was replaced by substitute player, Jintae, for the split. Shiphtur's team ended the spring split round robin with 11 wins and 17 losses and they managed to advance to the finals of the Season 3 NA LCS Spring playoffs where they were defeated by Team Solomid 3-2 in a best of 5 series. Despite their loss, they still finished the split at 2nd place and secured their spot in the Season 3 NA LCS Summer Split where they renamed their team to Team Coast as a result of their new sponsor. Additionally, ex-Curse Gaming support player Elementz became their coach and Shiphtur's visa issues were resolved. Shiphtur was able to play as the mid laner for Team Coast in the season 3 summer split of the NA LCS.
The Season 3 NA LCS Summer Split was rough for Team Coast. They began the split tied for second during Week One, but thanks to a seven-game losing streak at the end of the split, Coast had to settle for seventh with a record of 9-19 in the round robin. This meant that they would be sent to relegation matches in December in the 2014 Season NA LCS Spring Promotion Tournament to win back their spot into the NA LCS.
2014 Preseason[]
In the off-season, Shiphtur and Team Coast were invited to some amateur scene tournaments. They won ggLA Challenger Arena 4, ggLA Challenger Arena 5 and then earned a spot into a new competitive league, the North American Challenger League (NACL). During the first week of the NACL, on October 8, 2013, DontMashMe announced that he had stepped down from his starter AD Carry position. On November 26, WizFujiiN (now known as Apollo), joined as the new starting AD Carry. The team still won first place in the NACL.
In December, Team Coast chose to play against challenger team The Walking Zed for a spot in the 2014 North American LCS Spring Split at the 2014 spring promotion tournament, since ending in seventh place last split allowed them to choose their opponent in the tournament. There, Coast won 3-2 in a best of 5 series and qualified for their third LCS split, the 2014 Season NA LCS Spring Split.
2014 Season[]
Coast placed sixth at the end of the 2014 spring split, qualifying them for the 2014 NA LCS Spring Playoffs. However, two losses - first to CLG 0-2 and then to Dignitas 1-2 - sent them to relegation, where they lost 1-3 to compLexity.Black in the 2014 NA LCS Summer Promotion Tournament.
After Coast's relegation, Shiphtur and ZionSpartan left the team and joined Team Dignitas, replacing scarra/goldenglue in the mid lane and Cruzerthebruzer in the top lane, respectively. In the 2014 NA LCS Summer Split, despite sitting at a 6-2 record at the end of the third week, Dignitas ended the round robin in sixth place, with a 13-15 record. However, in the playoffs of the 2014 summer split, they managed to avoid going to relegations by defeating CLG in the fifth-place match.
2015 Preseason[]
Shiphtur re-signed with Dignitas for the 2015 season[15] and the team attended IEM Cologne, being the third most fan-voted team after Team Curse (now known as Team Liquid) who forfeited their spot due to visa issues. At IEM Cologne, Dignitas introduced new players Gamsu and Core JJ joining to replace ZionSpartan in the top lane and imaqtpie in the ADC role, respectively. They beat Aces High Esports Club 2-1 in the quarterfinals but were defeated by Gambit Gaming 2-0 in the semifinals which tied them for third with Team ROCCAT.
2015 Season[]
Dignitas ended the 2015 NA LCS Spring Split with a 6-12 record in 9th place after undergoing multiple changes of junglers during the split which sent them to relegations along with Winterfox. Winterfox, being the 8th-place team, chose to play against Team Dragon Knights in the 2015 NA LCS Summer Promotion Tournament, leaving Dignitas to play against Team Fusion. However, while Winterfox was relegated after falling 3-1 to TDK, Dignitas defeated Team Fusion 3-2 and stayed in the LCS for the summer split of the season. Despite being tied for first with a 7-2 record after 4.5 weeks of play in the summer season (halfway through), the team struggled throughout the last half and finished sixth at 10-8. In the quarterfinals of the summer playoffs, Dignitas was swept by Team Impulse and finished 2015 with only 20 Championship Points, not enough to qualify for the regional finals.
2016 Preseason[]
Dignitas were invited to IEM Cologne in December 2015, where they debuted their new roster, including Smittyj, Kirei, Shipthur, Apollo, and Jesiz, who substituted for KiWiKiD for the one event. Seeded against Qiao Gu Reapers, Dignitas lost 1-2 and were eliminated.
2016 Season[]
Following two 1-1 weeks in the season's spring split, Smittyj was removed from the team's starting roster and replaced by BillyBoss, due to "behavioural issues".[16] The team's worst-ever split unfolded following this change, as they saw only two further wins and – after playing the longest game of the split – finished 10th place with a 4-14 record. The same roster played in the Summer Promotion tournament, where they lost 0-3 to Team Dragon Knights, resulting in their elimination from the LCS. This made Dignitas the first of the three original North American LCS invitee teams to be relegated from the competition.
In May, Dignitas transferred its NACS Summer Season seed to Apex Gaming, and Shiphtur left the team after over two years of playing for them.[17]
