Notes[]
- Randuin's Omen's critical strike damage reduction does not apply to ability damage, even if the abilities use the critical strike damage symbol to indicate bonus damage
- Champions who use the active of Randuin's Omen will have their channeling abilities canceled.
- Ornn can upgrade this Item to a Mastwerwok Item:

Patch History[]
We're lightly re-designing Randuin's Omen for a few purposes: First, we don't want players to waste gold when building it alongside Frozen Heart. As the two most obvious anti-attack items, it felt bad to lose out when building them together, so now you can combine them without fear. This change was also convenient for simplifying the item as three unique effects is generally too many for an individual item in a post-Mythic world. Second, we continued reshaping resist items away from health. Third, we wanted to play up the active as a high-impact button, raising the cooldown to match its new power. In general, Randuin's should be clearly appealing when facing two crit users on the enemy team and a viable option when facing just one, as long as the Humility active is meaningful.
- Health: 400 ⇒ 350
- Armor: 55 ⇒ 75
- Humility cooldown: 60 seconds ⇒ 90 seconds
- Humility slow: 55% ⇒ 70%
- removed Rock Solid: Removed
- Total Cost: 2700 gold (unchanged)
- Item Recipe: Warden's Mail + Giant's Belt + 800 gold (unchanged)
- Health: 400 (unchanged)
- Armor: 60 ⇒ 55
- Passive - Rock Solid: Every first incoming instance of post-mitigation basic attack damage is reduced by 5 (+3.5 per 1000 maximum health), maximum 20% reduction per attack. (unchanged)
- Passive - Critical Resilience: Critical Strikes deal 25% less damage to you ⇒ Critical Strikes deal 30% less damage to you.
Some items are highly specific in their niche, and that's perfectly fine. However, it's important that these items are strong in their appropriate game states. Randuin's Omen should be the go-to anti-crit item, but its price and overall efficiency make it bad, even when the opposing team's champions suggest it should be good. A 10% cheaper Randuin's Omen (now matching many other tank legendaries) should make it best in slot when critical strikes are the primary damage you're receiving without it becoming the default tank armor item.
- Total Cost: 3000 ⇒ 2700
Randuin’s Omen has been an unpopular item, as most players are opting for Thornmail or Sunfire for their HP and armor. Since Randuin’s already offers a reasonable amount of stats, we’ll be sharpening what it uniquely offers to justify its price compared to alternative options.
- Critical Strike Damage Reduction: 20% ⇒ 25%
Randuin's critical damage reduction being tied to the active has led to a less satisfying and less reliable version of the item. We're returning the reduction to its passive, the active to its longer slow, all while retaining the new Rock Solid passive.
- Gold Cost: 2700 ⇒ 3000
- Health: 250 ⇒ 400
- Armor: 90 ⇒ 60
- Ability Haste: 10 ⇒ 0
- Build Path: Warden's Mail + Cloth Armor + Ruby Crystal ⇒ Warden's Mail + Giant's Belt
- Active - Humility: Briefly slow nearby enemies by 55% for 2 seconds (60 second cooldown)
- Passive - Critical Resistance: Critical strikes deal 20% less damage to you
- Passive - Rock Solid: Reduce incoming damage from attacks by up to 5 +0.35%, capped at 40% of attack's damage
Patch 10.23
Active now also reduces enemy AD and crit damage. Now passively reduces damage taken from any basic attack, not just crits. No longer reduces enemy attack speed when hit.
Retooling Randuin's to better identify its effectiveness as a powerful defensive tool against all physical damage and specifically crit-based attacks.
Base Stats
Effects
Patch 9.13
Armor increased.
Giving more options in armor choices for those who want to build more tanky.
v7.14
Build path updated. Grants more health.
Randuin’s is the item to buy when you’re looking to counter crit-focused champions, but even then, it’s a bit weaker than it ought to be. We’re giving Randuin’s a bit more bang for the buck and changing its build path to make it easier to to pivot away from (or toward) as the situation warrants.
BUILD PATH : | Warden's Mail | [+ Ruby Crystal + Ruby Crystal + 1100 gold] | |
⇒ | + Giant's Belt + 900 gold (2900 gold total cost unchanged) |
v7.9
Health down. Crit strike damage reduction up. Active slow strength up but duration down.
Randuin’s Omen is “the health/armor item that’s pretty good against basic attacks”. We’re sharpening that even further by greatly increasing its power against critical strikes, while reducing its effectiveness against other threats.
v6.3
Cost down. Health increased.
Rounding out our talks on armor items, we're removing some of the tricky math comparisons between this, Dead Man's Plate, and Sunfire Cape, so you don't have the second guess yourself when buying this against the mythical all-marksmen, all-Infinity Edge team. So, in summary - Sunfire to push. Dead Man's to chase and engage. Randuin's to punish basic attacks and crits. But don't just take our word for it. Build what you like. Follow your dreams.
v5.16
Costs less, but has less health and armor. Slow duration normalized, now reduces all critical strike damage.
Rounding out the ‘ubiquitous armor item’ trio, Randuin’s (much like Frozen Heart and Thornmail) lacks any sort of real focus when deciding why you’d want it over other items. While the stat adjustments should represent a moderate nerf to the item overall, we’re expanding its anti-basic attack theme from just slowing attack speed to ‘Oh God I’m Dying From Crits Please Help.’
