Biography[]
Muffinqt was born in Fargo, North Dakota, though he lived in Minnesota. One week before Muffinqt would turn four, his family would move to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he currently resides. Growing up, Jake's main interests would always be in video games. As a child, Muffinqt would be frequently found watching his older brother and uncle play games such as Secret of Mana and Battletoads. Once Muffinqt was old enough to understand how to play video games, he would always try beat his older brother in any competitive game. A connoisseur of video games, Muffinqt has played on just about every game console to date. Jake's competitive gaming career had truly started when he picked up Halo 2 for the XBOX, it being the first time he had interacted with others in video games. Soon after, Muffinqt would play the Gears of War and Call of Duty series at a semi-competitive level on the Xbox 360. Eventually Muffinqt would drop Call of Duty and Gears of War to focus on World of Warcraft. Shortly after Malzahar was released, Muffinqt would be introduced to League of Legends.
Muffinqt would begin his journey in League of Legends shortly after the release of Malzahar, after being introduced to the game through a friend. During the beta, Muffinqt would be a part of a team that his friends made, in which he played mainly AD Carry in the middle lane as Ashe.
Season 1[]
Muffinqt would break the 1900 ELO mark and reach platinum ELO around the midway point of Season 1. Around this time as well, Muffinqt would join Team Rez, a League of Legends team founded by Lexvink consisting of PhantomL0rd, Aphromoo, TreeEskimo, Unstoppable, and TakashiX. With Team Rez, Muffinqt would find some minor success in various small tournaments, such as the Go4LoL weekly cups, as well as take second at the IEM Season VI - Global Challenge New York North American Qualifiers, most notably defeating Curse Gaming, unRestricted, and Team SoloMid.
On October 1 of 2011, Muffinqt, along with the rest of Team Rez, was acquired by gaming organization v8 Esports. Muffinqt's first major tournament appearance under v8 Esports would be at the IGN ProLeague Season 3 - Atlantic City. Unfortunately, v8 Esports was quickly eliminated from the tournament in the first round, falling 0-2 to Epik Gamer. The next event that Muffinqt participated in would be the IEM Season VI - Global Challenge New York. Unfortunately, due to internal conflict, v8 Esports would place last in group stage, falling to Curse Gaming, Sypher, and SK Gaming.
Season 2[]
After undergoing some roster changes with v8 Esports, Muffinqt and the revamped v8 Esports squad competed in the IGN ProLeague Season 4 - Las Vegas Qualifiers. Coming into the qualifiers of the event as a darkhorse, v8 Esports had an extremely strong showing, most notably defeating Sypher 2-0, Monomaniac 2-0, and against All authority 2-1 in the finals of the qualifiers. Coming into the first round of IGN ProLeague Season 4 - Las Vegas, v8 Esports would fall to Team SoloMid 0-2, dropping down to the loser's bracket. There, Muffinqt and his team would defeat Epik Gamer 2-0 in the first round but eventually fall to Counter Logic Gaming Prime 0-2 in the second round. Muffinqt and v8 Esports would end the event with a 5th-6th place finish.
Due to unresolved problems with the management of the team and the departure of several key players in v8 Esports, Muffinqt would depart from the team on April 26, 2012. Around one week later, Muffinqt would be brought in to mTw.NA to replace Zuna and take over as the new support for the team. Over the next few months, Muffinqt would find success with his new team in various online tournaments, taking first in the In2LOL Kickoff NA Tournament, Solomid NA Invitational 3, and National ESL Pro Series Season 3.
The first major tournament that Muffinqt competed in with team mTw.NA was the 2012 MLG Pro Circuit - Spring Championship. In the first round of the tournament, Muffinqt and mTw.NA would fall to Counter Logic Gaming EU 0-2, dropping mTw.NA to the loser's bracket. Despite taking out vVv Gaming 2-1 in the loser's bracket, mTw.NA would eventually fall to Team Dynamic in the fourth round of the loser's bracket. Muffinqt and mTw.NA would end the event with a 9th-12th place finish.
Despite a disappointing showing at the 2012 MLG Pro Circuit Spring Championship, Muffinqt would have continued success in many online tournaments with mTw.NA, taking first place in the Solomid NA Invitational 3, second place in the Solomid NA Invitational 4, SoloMid NA Invitational 5, and the SoloMid NA Invitational 6, and third place in the Leaguecraft ggClassic Presented by Arqade.
One of Muffinqt's most distinguished online tournament victories would be in the National ESL Pro Series Season 3. In the group stage, Muffinqt and his team mTw.NA would defeat 4Not.Fire, Epik Gamer, Counter Logic Gaming Prime, and Team Legion, while falling to Team Dignitas, Curse Gaming, and Team SoloMid to place third in the group stage. Coming into the playoffs as underdogs, Muffinqt and his team mTw.NA would upset Team SoloMid in the semifinals, taking them out 2-0 to advance to the finals. There, Muffinqt and his team would sweep Team Dignitas 2-0 to take home first place.
On August 11, 2012, Muffinqt and mTw.NA participated in the IPL Face Off: San Francisco Showdown. In the first round of the event, mTw.NA faced off against the dark horse of the tournament, Team Legion, who were able to defeat mTw.NA 2-1, knocking mTw.NA to the loser's bracket. Despite falling early in the tournament, Muffinqt and his team would have a strong run in the loser's bracket, defeating Team Dynamic 2-1 and Singapore Sentinels 2-0 before falling to Curse Gaming 0-2 in the third round of the loser's bracket. Muffinqt and mTw.NA would take fourth place in the IPL Face Off with mTw.NA. Ten days after the end of IPL Face Off, Muffinqt, along with the rest of the mTw.NA squad, was acquired by gaming organization Monomaniac to form Monomaniac Ferus.
Muffinqt's first event under Monomaniac would be the 2012 MLG Summer Championship. Placed into the blue bracket, Monomaniac Ferus would open with a fantastic start, sweeping both Monomaniac Imperium and Team SoloMid Evo 2-0 before falling to Curse Gaming 0-2 in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately for Muffinqt, his team was eliminated from the tournament in the loser's bracket by Orbit Gaming, taking home a 5th-6th place finish.
