Biography[]
MonteCristo started in the eSports scene as a volunteer writer for WCReplays, a Warcraft 3 replays site.[8] He began shoutcasting for WCReplays with Phreak and attests that casting came naturally due to his many years of stage performance.[9] During his involvement with the Warcraft 3 scene, Mykles managed a professional Warcraft 3 team with Verge Gaming and joined the Team Sportscast Network, a now defunct eSports shoutcasting organization.[10][11]
Mykles attended Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland for a year before returning to the United States to attend and graduate from Vassar College, where he studied literature. In the year after college, Mykles underwent a Guatemalan-Mayan adulthood initiation rite. While later working at a law firm in New York City, Mykles became "obsessed" with League of Legends in its beta phase and subsequently founded ggChronicle to provide a journalism outlet devoted to professionalism for the LoL eSports scene.[12]
Through contacts made in the eSports scene, MonteCristo was offered and took a full-time, contract casting position at OnGameNet, which lasted until the end of 2016.[13]
On July 24, 2013, CLG staff confirmed rumors that MonteCristo has begun working for CLG as a coach.[14] He coached the team until September 9, 2014.[15]
MonteCristo became a co-owner of Renegades on June 19, 2015. [16]
In 2016, he began casting Overwatch with DoA as OGN hosted APEX Season 1, the first premier Overwatch tournament in Korea; the two of them were invited by Blizzard to join a casting team including Deman for the Overwatch World Cup held before and during BlizzCon 2016. After this, both MonteCristo and DoA were hired by Blizzard to cast Overwatch full time in NA. PapaSmithy and Achilios were promoted as lead commentators for LCK after their departure.
