Biography[]

Tong "Koro1" Yang is from Leping City in the Jiangxi province of China. He currently lives in Shanghai. He's been playing League of Legends competitively since 2013.

Season 3[]

Koro1 first played on a sub team for Team LiveMore after the club's reformation. He joined RisingStars Gaming in July of 2013 after the retirement of jungler 1816. Ruo moved from top lane to jungle, and Koro1 took his spot in the top lane. Prior to the roster change, RisingStars was pegged to qualify for the 2014 LPL Spring, but in TGA Grand Prix Winter 2013, they failed to make it out of group stage. Koro1 was considered a one-dimensional tank player.

After Kitties, support player for RisingStars, was picked up by Invictus Gaming, the team disbanded. Koro1 received an offer to join Edward Gaming on recommendation from his original League of Legends mentor, Clearlove.

2014 Season[]

Koro1 competed with EDG in 2014 LPL Spring after they bought the spot vacated by LMQ when they chose to leave for North America. There, he was known for consistently losing lane. Edward Gaming placed second in the regular season, failing to win a game against Oh My God all Spring. After OMG qualified for All-Star Paris 2014, EDG faced OMG in a third party tournament known as International Esports Tournament 2014. This would be Koro1's and EDG's first tournament win, going 2-0 to OMG in the final. EDG later won their first LPL final against Invictus Gaming in Playoffs after All-Star.

During this first split, Koro1 found most of his success on Renekton and especially Trundle. Trundle allowed him to play effectively from behind. He said after the IET win that his synergy improved with the other players over time[9].

In 2014 LPL Summer, EDG became more solidified as a late game team fighting team. Slowly, Koro1's picks branched out more into split-pushing carries like Jax and Kayle. Later in the season, he began to perform well on Ryze and Irelia, though he still wouldn't be known as a carry top laner.

EDG continued to perform well in third party events like Demacia Cup 2014 Summer, NEST 2014, and XCS Season 1. They placed first in the 2014 LPL Summer regular season and Playoffs. They secured first seed for China for the 2014 World Championship in 2014 Season China Regional Finals. Kayle and Irelia were Koro1's go-to champions during this time.

At the 2014 World Championship, EDG did worse than expected in Group Stage. Koro1 blamed himself for a misplay against Samsung White in the opening match[10].

In the quarterfinals at Busan, Ryze became a power pick against Star Horn Royal Club and EDG. Koro1 stepped up in games 3 and 4 on Ryze when NaMei wasn't performing as well as usual, but Cola picked Ryze in the last game for an SHRC victory.

2015 Preseason[]

Back in China, EDG continued to win almost every tournament in which they participated. Team King was their strongest rival, facing them in most of the finals. They only managed to beat EDG in one best-of-three. In Decemeber, Koro1 was made the captain of the team after the retirement of Fzzf and after PawN and Deft joined the team. EDG had their most convincing victory over King in the finals of G-League 2014 with pawN and Deft. Koro1's improved performances in lane contributed to the 3-0 closeout and King top laner, Skye's, first loss on Irelia.

2015 Season[]

Prior to the 2015 LPL Spring season, Koro1 made the statement that "he might lose lane, but no one would out team fight EDG." He received some criticisms for his cockiness after the 2-0 loss to Snake.

EDG wouldn't lose to any other teams 2-0 during the rest of the 22 series regular LPL season. During this time, Koro1 played 13 different champions. Noteably, he only received one loss on Maokai and no losses on Gnar, his two most played champions.

EDG went undefeated in Demacia Cup Summer 2015 from round-of-sixteen until the finals. When EDG returned to LPL, they placed first in the regular season. They then won Playoffs less flawlessly than predicted, partly due to problems with pawN's health. In the finals, Koro1 experienced his first ever loss on Gnar, but LGD Gaming banned the champion against him in Games 4 and 5 after his play in Game 3. EDG won their third LPL title (their first with Koro1 as the captain) and a ticket to the Mid-Season Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida.

At MSI, EDG pushed their way to the finals and upset the heavily favored SK Telecom T1 by baiting Faker into picking LeBlanc and picking a comp to counter it. EDG won the series 3-2 and took home the title of best team in the World. EDG participated in the 2015 Demacia Cup Summer Season where they won again by taking a 3-0 set against OMG. They ended in first place once again in the 2015 LPL Summer Regular Season but in the 2015 LPL Summer Playoffs they faltered, dropping a 3-0 set to LGD and a 3-1 set to IG to end in fourth place overall. They still qualified for the 2015 Season China Regional Finals and managed to take the second seed from China to the 2015 Season World Championship with a 3-1 victory over IG. EDG were placed in a group with SK Telecom, H2k Gaming, and the Bangkok Titans. They came out of the group in second place and were drawn to play Fnatic in the quarterfinals but lost to them 3-0.

2016 Season[]

The spring season started off fairly rocky for EDG. They dropped series in an attempt to integrate their substitute jungler, Mitty, to the team. Along with PawN being subbed out due to his back injury, the team suffered early in the split; however, they soon recovered form. PawN returned, and played until finals, and the team began to play their old macro-style. They almost tied with Royal Never Give Up for first in their group, only being down one series.

This was a period of struggles for the weathered top laner, as his play worsened towards the end of the split and going into Playoffs. The team then decided to bench him for the summer season due to both performance issues and conflicts with the organization regarding his contract and payment, as former support player Mouse stepped up as a starter. Koro1 kept practicing in Solo Queue during the season, though he didn't join the team for scrims, and even followed EDG in their American trip for the 2016 Season World Championship after they qualified by winning the LPL Summer Season. He then rejoined the roster as an emergency sub for the Bracket Stage of Worlds due to Mouse leaving for China due to a death in the family.[11]

2017 Season[]

Throughout the 2017 LPL Spring Season Koro1 split some play time with Mouse. EDG wasn't able to win the split but they did win their third place match in the playoffs 3-2 against OMG. In May of 2017 Koro1's long tenure on EDG ended after he transfered to RNG. Summer was similar for him and he split some play time with LetMe. RNG finished 2nd in the playoffs with a 2-3 loss to EDG in the finals. Koro1 wasn't used by the team as a substitute at the 2017 Season World Championship.

Trivia[]
