Notes[]
- The critical strike damage stat provided by
Infinity Edge increases most champions' total critical strike damage from 175% AD to 215% AD. - Ornn can upgrade this Item to a Mastwerwok Item:
Trivia[]
- Infinity Edge shares its name with a set of Infinity Weapons from the game Lineage II, which are the strongest weapons available. Infinity Edge bears similarities to the Infinity Shaper.
- As hinted in its lore, the Infinity Edge got its powers from the Oasis of the Dawn located in the Ancient Shuriman Capital, the once center of the vast Shuriman Empire. The Oasis is described as a pool with many magical properties.
- Infinity Edge was in the old Summoner's Rift map, specifically in the shopkeeper's bag.
- It is still hung on display in both shops.
- Infinity Edge's icon looks somewhat similar to Kayle's sword. The blades have similar shapes and writing.

Lore[]
Only the boldest of men and women dare take the risky trip to the hottest spot in Valoran, in the very center of the Shurima Desert. Those who successfully make the journey may bathe their swords in a magical pool of the purest water known to this world. Any edge dipped into this pool will stay sharper and strike truer than any other sword.

Patch History[]
As the premiere gold-scaling class, there's no reason IE shouldn't be at least tied for the most expensive item in the game. Also, since we're trying to make Essence Reaver, Yun Tal Wildarrows, and Collector be solid AD-crit starter items, we can push IE back to make more sense on slot two or three as a true capstone.
- Total Cost: 3400 ⇒ 3600
- Attack Damage: 80 ⇒ 70
Infinity Edge is currently too strong and the potential burst available to ADCs off of one lucky crit is a little too high, so we're bringing down their top end.
- Crit Damage: 50% ⇒ 40%
We wanted to bring back a more powerful version of Infinity Edge that feels like it's worth rushing. With these stats, it'll hold its own while waiting for other scalers to come into play and should bring back crit builds to some of the users that had some in the past.
- Total Gold Cost: 3300 Gold ⇒ 3400 Gold
- Critical Strike Chance: 20% ⇒ 25%
- Attack Damage: 65 ⇒ 80
- Critical Strike Damage: 40% ⇒ 50%
- Total Cost: 3400 ⇒ 3300 gold
- Item Recipe: B.F. Sword + Pickaxe + Cloak of Agility + 625 gold ⇒ B.F. Sword + Pickaxe + Cloak of Agility + 525 gold
- Critical Strike Damage: 45% ⇒ 40%
- Attack Damage: 65 (unchanged)
- Critical Strike Chance: 20% (unchanged)
Infinity Edge has been a reasonable marksman capstone since midseason, but isn't quite hitting the excitement bar that we want it to. IE should be the clear late-game auto-attack DPS winner, and while it's close, many players aren't getting the enjoyment they want out of this historic item. In truth, the changes here are pretty small. It's roughly power-neutral as a second item and then trends toward 3-4% more auto attack DPS in full builds. The important thing is having auto attack crits stand out, which should safely happen here.
- Attack Damage: 70 ⇒ 65
- Critical Strike Damage: 35% ⇒ 45%
Across League’s lifetime, Infinity Edge has almost always been a mythic item for AD Carries in everything but name, so now we’re just making it official. It’s got a simple stat profile and a simple purpose: Deal up to 20% more auto-attack damage based on your critical strike chance. It’s good at it. The Mythic Passive is intentionally pretty bland because IE already does a great job of making your other items feel awesome.
- NEW Tier Change: Legendary Tier ⇒ Mythic Tier
- Total Cost: 3400 (Note: Unchanged)

- Attack Damage: 70 (Note: Unchanged)
- Critical Strike Chance: 20% (Note: Unchanged)
- Critical Strike Damage: 35% (Note: Identical to the removed Perfection passive)
- NEW Mythic Passive: Empowers each of your other Legendary items with 5 Attack Damage
- Passive - Perfection Required Critical Strike Chance: 60% ⇒ 40%
Patch 10.23
Increased critical strike damage now scales with critical strike chance.
Infinity Edge is an iconic and valuable part of the marksman ecosystem, but buying it first most every game left little room for anything else to compete. We've reenvisioned Infinity Edge in a Deathcap-esque form that increases in value as a crit build progresses, allowing it to remain a staple power-spike in crit builds without defining the marksman early game with its awkward build path and lack of utility.

Patch 9.3
Increases critical strike damage instead of partially converting crits to true damage. Grants Critical Strike chance
We're restoring Infinity Edge's synergy with itself to make it a more immediately gratifying pickup. Removing its true damage conversion means it no longer anti-synergizes with Last Whisper, while setting its crit damage bonus to 25% rather than the historic 50% lets us maintain our original goal of mitigating the late-game squishy melting marksmen used to achieve.
BUILD PATH : | B.F. Sword + Pickaxe + | [1225 gold]
⇒ | Cloak of Agility + 425 gold |
Molten Edge
(Ornn's Masterwork upgrade)
v8.15
Total cost decreased. Build path changed. True damage decreased. Attack damage decreased.
Cheaper items (with fewer stats to compensate) should help marksmen reach a reasonable spike earlier.
BUILD PATH : | BF Sword + | [BF Sword + 1000 gold]
⇒ | Pickaxe + 1225 gold |
We'll be looking to make individual marksman changes in the coming patches, but we don't want to risk overbuffing them alongside item changes. To start, we're adding power to some core crit items before looking at individual champions too heavily.
Infinity Edge
Essence Reaver
Essence Reaver is performing pretty well on users who have some way to "cheat" extra basic attacks (Lucian's passive or Renekton's W, or attack resets), and thus get far more ability refreshes. We want to open Essence Reaver up to a few more champions without buffing it on the core champions, and that means giving more attack speed so that champions without bonus attacks in their kit can get more bang for their buck.
v8.11
Crit? Try more crit.
We're making Infinity Edge into a true scaling item for marksmen, one which amps up the power of critical strike but isn't itself a critical strike item.
BUILD PATH : | B.F. Sword + | [Pickaxe + Cloak of Agility + 425 gold]
⇒ | B.F. Sword + 1100 gold |
v6.14
Now on Twisted Treeline.
Prior to last November’s preseason update, B. F. Sword was too expensive to have a home on Twisted Treeline. The burden of saving for one would have been madness in an environment where marksmen naturally struggled to scale into relevance, so we gave the Treeline its own cheaper, Pickaxe-based alternatives to B. F.’s upgrades. As discussed above, however, things have changed, so we’re now comfortable introducing this suite of items to the Treeline.

v6.12
+5 AD
Standard marksman itemization is centered around combining a B.F. Sword upgrade and a Zeal upgrade. This pairing is an engine of efficiency for basic attack strength: attack damage adds raw power, while crit chance and attack speed multiply it. Stats from subsequent items further fuel this engine, which is why most marksmen excel as late-game damage threats.
At present, the two-item threshold is slightly less impactful than it should be for the 6k+ gold investment it demands. Marksmen shouldn’t transform into unstoppable killing machines with just two items, but they should at least feel like they can contribute to their teams. We're adding a bit more bang for the buck to ensure a marksman’s initial gold investment feels like progress toward late game power, not just a prerequisite for it.
- "We've been keeping an eye on marksmen power for some time and specifically wanted to tackle Infinity Edge, the new ubiquitous AD item that's replaced Bloodthirster since patch 4.10 (wow has it really been that long?). Rather than straight chopping away damage, however, reducing IE's crit chance means we can accentuate its reliance on other crit multiplier items in order to scale well into the mid-late game."
