Biography[]
2015 Season[]
Galen "Moon" Holgate joined Frank Fang Gaming in March 2015, part of a new roster that included himself, LattmaN, BonQuish, BrandonFtw, and goldenglue. The team quickly became a favorite in the Challenger scene and took second place in the AlphaDraft Challenger League, behind Misfits. However, after they were eliminated in the first round of the NACS Summer Qualifier by Cloud9 Tempest, the team disbanded. Moon received offers from multiple teams that had qualified and first played a game with Winterfox in the second week of the NACS summer season before joining Team Imagine, where he started as their jungler in the third week of the season when the team fully replaced their starting lineup.
Imagine finished fourth in the regular season, with a 6-4 record. In the 2015 NACS Summer Playoffs, they lost in the semifinals to eventual tournament winner Renegades, but won the third place match against Cloud 9 Tempest to secure a spot in the 2016 LCS Promotion Tournament. Chosen by Team 8, they lost 3-1 - out of LCS qualification, but regardless retaining their 2016 NACS spring season placement.
2016 Season[]
Moon joined NRG, a new team that purchased Team Coast's spot for the NA LCS 2016 Spring Season, in November 2015. NRG started the LCS strong, tied for either first or second place through the first four weeks, but after the fifth week they fell down to fifth place and remained there for the rest of the season. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Moon initially joined Team Liquid Academy in May, but started the summer split on the LCS team after Dardoch was suspended. Team Liquid lost their first three games with him starting, and Moon was moved back to the academy team before the start of Week 2 and remained there for the rest of the year. TLA had a strong summer split, finishing second, a single game behind Cloud9 Challenger. In the playoffs, they swept Nova eSports in the semifinals, but lost in the finals to Cloud9 Challenger in five games, after controversially being denied a remake when Piglet mistakenly locked in Rammus in game five. They still qualified for the promotion tournament, but lost another five-game series to Echo Fox in the elimination round, sending the team back to challenger.
2017 Season[]
In the offseason, Moon initially announced that he would join Team Liquid as an analyst, but ended up joining FlyQuest, who had purchased Cloud9 Challenger's LCS seed, as their starting jungler. FlyQuest started the spring split with a surprisingly strong 6-2 record but went 1-7 over the next four weeks. However, a 2-0 final week let them squeak into the playoffs as the fifth seed.
In the quarterfinals, FlyQuest faced off against fourth seed Counter Logic Gaming, who were favored due to FlyQuest's weak late-season performance. After going to 0-2 in the series, FlyQuest roared back to win the next two games and eventually reverse sweep CLG off the back of some questionable aggressive calls in game seven. Unfortunately, the Cinderella story ended there, as they were quickly swept by eventual champions TSM in the semifinals, and fell to Phoenix1 in the third-place match despite taking a 2-1 series lead.
Unfortunately, despite their playoff performance, the struggles that had begun for FlyQuest in the spring split continued in the summer. FlyQuest never managed to climb higher than seventh place or reach a .500 record and only avoided relegation by winning their final two games. Although the team didn't make playoffs, due to having 30 championship points from the Spring Season, they were eligible to play in the 2017 Regional Finals. With little expected of them, FlyQuest managed to shockingly sweep Team Dignitas in the first gauntlet match and take the first game of the second series off of CLG before eventually falling in a close 3-1 series, ending their Worlds hopes.
2018 Season[]
In the offseason, Moon left FlyQuest and joined Clutch Gaming Academy to play in the newly-formed NA Academy League. Clutch Gaming Academy had a mediocre spring split, spending the first half of the season around the .500 mark before declining down the stretch, ending up in seventh place with an 8-10 record.
Moon stayed with the team for the summer split. The team started 0-4 but improved later on, ending up 10-8 and in fourth place. Moon also played two games for the LCS team in Week 6 of the summer season but both were losses.
Clutch Gaming Academy also played in the academy playoffs, where they were matched up against FlyQuest Academy. CG.A took the series to all five games, but eventually fell, ending their season.
2019 Season[]
Moon was announced as the jungler for CLG Academy for the 2019 season, but in an echo of 2016, started the season with the LCS team. Moon ended up started the first game of Week 1 and both Week 7 games, but all three ended in losses. His stint on the academy team was slightly more successful, and the team went 7-7 over the first seven weeks of the spring academy season. However, he was replaced by LCS jungler Wiggily for the final two weeks, and the team went 3-1, ending up in a four-way tie for third place. Moon returned for the playoffs against Team Liquid Academy, but his return was brief as CLG.A lost the first two games with him starting and eventually lost the series in game 3.
Moon stayed with CLG Academy for the summer academy split and this time played every game for the team. However, this stability didn't lead to success, as CLG.A was one of the bottom teams for most of the split, ending up 6-12 and in eighth place, outside of playoffs.
2020 Season[]
In the offseason, Moon announced that he would be taking a break from competitive play. He remained in the League of Legends scene, joining Radiance, a new organization run by his former teammate Hai, as a coach. He stayed with Radiance until May when he announced that he would be returning to CLG.A, this time as their head coach. Under his guidance, CLG.A finished fifth in the summer academy split, but fell to eventual academy champions Cloud9 Academy in the playoffs.
