Excel Esports is a British team. Their name was previously stylized exceL eSports and later exceL Esports.
History[]
In 2018, after it was reported that negotiations with other organizations had failed, exceL was rumored to be joining the EU LCS as part of the 2019 European franchise program.[1] On November 20, Riot Games confirmed exceL Esports as one of the ten partner teams for the LEC 2019 Spring Split.[2]
2019 Season[]
Excel signed a roster lead by experienced players Exile and kaSing as well as Expect, Caedrel, and rookie bot laner Jeskla. Following a 2-6 start in the Spring Split they changed around their roster bringing in rookies Special and Mystiques from their academy team instead of the veterans. This young roster could not turn the split around for them though and Excel finished in 9th place with a 5-13 record.
Excel started Summer Split once again with Hjarnan and kaSing in bot lane and Special in mid lane as new signing Mickey could not join the team in time. After a once again bad start Jeskla and Mystiques came back into bot lane whilst Mickey earned the spot as starting mid laner. After another 0-2 week the team managed to use the long break around Rift Rivals well and came back to LEC much improved from week 4 onwards. They had playoff positions within reach before losing their last 4 games of regular season against tougher competition and dropping back down to 10th.
2020 Season[]
For the 2020 season Excel managed to pick up star coach Youngbuck who changed the roster up. Hjarnan, Jeskla and Mystiques had to leave the team while Special and kaSing were sent to their academy team. As their replacements Origen's bot laner Patrik and former Splyce support Tore got signed. Despite having high hopes for the upcoming season their Spring Split was only mediocre. They went 1-1 in each of the first seven weeks winning against the bottom teams but losing against the top teams until they were upset in the last match by SK. They finished with a 7-11 record in the Regular Season which meant 7th place and missing out on playoffs.
Due to this Excel decided to replace their imports during the mid-season break and promoted mid laner Special again whilst signing top lane rookie Kryze from the ERL team of Unicorns Of Love.
