Passive
Passive Basic attacks against non-turret apply a debuff that slows the target by 5 / 10 / 15 / 20% (melee champions) 5 / 7.5 / 10 (ranged champions) for 3 seconds and deals 10 - 75 (based on level) bonus true damage over 2 seconds, with the first tick of damage occurring on-hit and subsequent ticks occurring each second. Applying Crest of Cinders while a target is already affected by it refreshes the burn duration, but does not deal the on-hit damage part.

Also, when out-of-combat with champion and epic monster, heals for 0.5 / 1 / 3% of maximum health per 5 seconds. If the buff holder is slain, this buff is transferred to the killer.

The Crest of Cinders is a neutral buff granted upon killing a Red BramblebackSquareRed Brambleback.

Notes[]

  • It is only available on Summoner's Rift.
  • The buff can be obtained in four different ways:
    • By landing the killing blow to the Red BramblebackSquareRed Brambleback.
    • By picking up a wisp of the buff at the Red BramblebackSquareRed Brambleback's camp location.
      • This wisp is spawned when the Red BramblebackSquareRed Brambleback is killed in its Draconic form and lasts for 60 seconds
        • The monster gains this Draconic form after the map transforms into the Elemental Rift.
        • The wisp can be picked up by one of the killer's allied champions depending on if they had Smite Smite or not. If they did, then the wisp can be picked up by one of their allies. Otherwise, it can only be picked up by an ally that has Smite Smite.
    • By being alive when the Red BramblebackSquareRed Brambleback is slain by your allies in its Voidborn form.
      • The monster becomes corrupted by the Void after Baron NashorSquareBaron Nashor spawns at 20 minutes into the game, turning into a Voidborn that empowers the Crest of Cinders to be granted to both the killer and all their allied champions if they are alive.
    • By killing a champion that possesses this buff; it is transferred and the duration of the buff is refreshed
      • This transfer only occurs if the buff was initially obtained from a non-Voidborn Red BramblebackSquareRed Brambleback.

Trivia[]

  • This buff can be identified by swirling red runes around your champion. Due to such, it is often referred to as Red Buff
  • The old icon of this buff was recycled off Tabu, a champion that was canceled in the Closed Beta of League of Legends.
  • This buff used to be called Blessing of the Lizard Elder.

Patch 14.1

  • 0.5/1/3/5% Max Health Regeneration (levels 1/4/6/11) ⇒ 0.5/1/3% Max Health Regeneration (levels 1/4/6)
  • When the buffs become Voidborn they no longer transfer to opponents upon the owner’s death (mainly to prevent giant messes with everyone having buffs all the time)
  • Upon death, Draconic Sentinel and Brambleback will give the champion that slayed them a version of their respective buff (buffs unchanged) and drop a duplicate of their buff at their original spawn location. Only one buff will be shareable with allies while the other must be claimed by an allied champion with a jungle item in their inventory (unchanged vs live).
  • Starting at 20 minutes, once slain the Draconic Brambleback and Sentinel will respawn as their Voidborn counterparts.
  • Blue/Red Buff sharing mechanics are no longer tied to Jungle item progression.


Patch 13.12

Red buff is way more prevalent now that Buff Sharing exists. Due to this we'll need to bring its power levels down a tad by reducing its late game damage output and retaining its slow and regeneration properties.

  • Damage: 6+6*Level (12-114) ⇒ 6+4*Level (10-78)
  • Slow Amount: 10/15/25 ⇒ 10/15/20 (halved for ranged champions)
  • Health Regeneration: 1/3/9% ⇒ 1/3/5%


Patch 8.7

The amount of damage red buff adds to a jungler's ability to push a tower after a successful gank is pretty high, and that can make the difference between a tower killed and a tower at half health. There's not much gameplay around this distinction; it was just sometimes escalating how quickly towers fell, so we're removing it.

Duration increased. Red buff’s on-hit tick and Blue buff’s ability power scaling removed.

During the mid-season update, we compressed the power of Red and Blue buff into stronger, shorter versions, with the hope that contesting them could feel like a more valuable objective. However, the power-ups have made fights with the buffs in play too volatile - buffs are accelerating the damage pacing of their wielders more than they should.. We’re reverting the mid-season changes to bring these buffs back to useful - but not overwhelming - levels.

Patch 6.9
Red and blue buffs scale better, but expire faster.

Similar to our goals for the epic monster changes, we want red and blue buffs to be worth contesting. Ol’ Sentinel and Brambleback already had clear reasons to be taken, so we’re compressing their buff durations to accentuate the strengths they offer and scale them better into the late game.

Patch 5.22
Health, armor, damage and experience down. Magic resist and gold reward up.

It wouldn't be a preseason without some jungle changes, would it? We're actually pretty happy with where the Jungle sits systems-wise, so we're just doing a tuning pass to keep things in line with the other changes we've made. Simply put, the jungle's a tad easier and gives more gold, but nets less overall experience unless you've got a jungle item to make up the difference.
