Coach Comms is a competitive operations feature that allows a designated member of a team’s coaching staff to communicate directly with players during live gameplay. The system is currently piloted in the LCP during the Regular Season of Split 1 and the LCK during the Group Stage of the LCK Cup.[1][2]

Purpose

Coach Comms is intended to provide teams with limited real-time strategic guidance during a match. Traditionally, coaches cannot interact with players once the draft phase ends, and all feedback happens after the game concludes. By allowing short in-game communication windows, Coach Comms enables:

  • Immediate strategic adjustments
  • Faster reactions to in-game situations
  • Additional depth for competitive and viewer experience

Usage Rules

  • Each team may activate Coach Comms up to three (3) times per game.
  • Each activation lasts 45 seconds.
  • Coach Comms is performed without pausing the game.
  • Teams must nominate one coach before the game begins. This coach is the only person allowed to communicate with players.
  • The nominated coach may only view the team-only player POV (no spectator modes or opponent information).
  • All external communication devices are strictly prohibited until the game ends.
  • The nominated coach can only be changed between games, not during one.

Optional Feature

Coach Comms is not mandatory. Teams must decide whether to enable it before the game loads and cannot change their decision afterward.

Coach Comms Area

  • The nominated coach must remain in the designated Coach Comms area from the end of draft until the end of the game.
  • If the coach leaves the area due to unavoidable reasons, they may not return until the game concludes.
  • Once all Coach Comms opportunities are used, the coach may freely leave the designated area.

Broadcast

Coach Comms audio will not be played on broadcast.

Availability

Coach Comms is currently being piloted only in the LCK and LCP for a limited period. It is not used at global events or other regional leagues at this time.
