Biography[]
Shan "Chaox" Huang was originally born in Chengdu, China and lived in Nanjing, China until the age of seven, when his family moved to Montreal, Canada. At the age of 13, his family moved again to Long Island, New York. While playing for TSM, Huang lived in the TSM gaming house, first in New York and later in California. After his departure from Team SoloMid, Huang moved back to his home in New York.
League of Legends Career[]
TSM Era and Departure[]
Chaox first started gaming at the age of 3 on the SNES, and later on became a semi-competitive player in Dota, World of Warcraft, and Heroes of Newerth before becoming a professional League of Legends player. He first played League of Legends during the beta, but disliked it at first, feeling it wasn't up to par with DotA. After the announcement of the Season 1 prizepool, he stuck with the game. He was recruited to Team SoloMid in January 2011 after playing with and against Reginald in solo queue. At first, he was Team SoloMid's support player, but then after Locodoco's departure from SoloMid, Chaox became the starting AD carry, a position he would hold for over two years. With TSM, Chaox placed first in several online and offline events and became one of the most well-known AD Carry players in the world.
On March 25, 2013, Chaox was released from Team SoloMid and replaced by WildTurtle. Support player Xpecial claimed the release was due to differences between Chaox and TSM's midlaner Reginald; however after Wildturtle's impressive performance with TSM, every member of the team agreed they would rather have WildTurtle play instead of Chaox.[7][8]
Trip to Asia and Retirement[]
After leaving Team SoloMid, Chaox visited China to learn more about e-Sports. He planned to leave on April 14, 2013 and have the trip to last for two months: one month in China and another month in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea.[9] Unfortunately his trip was delayed because his mother burned his visa,[10] but on April 23, Chaox finally arrived Shanghai, China.[11]
While in Asia, Chaox spent time with multiple organizations, including Vici Gaming, Invictus Gaming, and Garena. He also appeared on Tencent LoL Pro League 2013 as a guest.[12] On June 20, 2013, Chaox arrived back in North America.[13]
On June 21, 2013, Chaox announced his retirement from competitive League of Legends in a vlog on his YouTube channel, [14]. On August 20 and 21st, Chaox represented UNICEF in the eBay Charity Invitational 1v1 tournament[15]. He defeated OneBadBrad but lost to fabbbyyy in the semifinals on the next day.
Return to competitive League of Legends[]
On October 6, 2013, Chaox announced that he is officially looking for a competitive team. [16] His first match since coming out from retirement was as a temporary substitute as AD for Napkins in Disguise on North American Challenger League Week 3 Day 3.[17] He then tried out for Team Coast, playing as a temporary sub ADC in Challenger Leagues/tournaments that Coast was competing in at the time, such as the NACL[18], however ultimately the position was given to WizFujiiN.
On June 9, 2014, in announcing Team Coast's new roster, it was officially revealed that Chaox would become their full-time coach.[19] Chaox moved into Coast's gaming house in Las Vegas [20] On July 22, 2014, Chaox decided to step down as the coach for Coast in order to focus on his own competitive play. He mentioned that while he could see coaching as a future career, he is currently trying to climb the ranked ladder and be on the look out for opportunities to return as a competitive player. [21]
On July 29, 2014, it was announced that Chaox would substitute as Counter Logic Gaming's AD carry while the main roster bootcamps in Korea. [22] He played in four games with a roster consisting entirely of temporary subs.
On October 10, 2014, it was rumored on ROBERTxLEE's stream that Chaox would replace him as the starting AD Carry for Complexity.
December 5, Chaox announces he's no longer a free agent - joining Roar. With the team, he competed in the NACS 2015 Spring Qualifier, but they were knocked out by Cloud9 G2A in the first round. In February 2015, Roar disbanded. Chaox moved to China when Roar reformed two months later and competes in Chinese competitive league.
