Notes[]
- As with all shields, the overheal shield benefits from the user's armor, magic resistance and other damage reduction effects.
- The shield gained per hit benefits from Shield power, but the cap does not.
- Ornn can upgrade this Item to a Mastwerwok Item:
Trivia[]
Sanguine Blade was Bloodthirster's counterpart on the Crystal Scar and the Twisted Treeline.
Lore[]
Unearthed near the marshes of Kaladoun, Bloodthirster is thought to have belonged to a powerful soulstealer named Frax Van Itt. The wielder of this dangerous weapon is forever bound to the blade and its thirst for the blood of others.

Patch History[]
- Ichorshield Shield Strength: 50-400 (levels 1-18) (aka 194-400 (levels 8-18)) ⇒ 165-315 (levels 8-18)
- Lifesteal: 18% ⇒ 15%
Bloodthirster is once again leaving the crit system, and going back to its simpler roots of being a pure AD and lifesteal stick. With it, it's also regaining its passive ability to overheal. This will potentially open it up as an option for other classes to purchase it.
- Build Path: BF Sword + Cloak of Agility + Vampiric Scepter + 600 Gold ⇒ BF Sword + Pickaxe + Vampiric Sceptre + 325 Gold
- Total Gold Cost unchanged
- Attack Damage: 55 ⇒ 80
- No longer grants extra AD above 70% Health
- new Ichorshield: converts excess healing from lifesteal into a shield, up to 50-400 (based on level)
- removed Crit Chance: 20% ⇒ Removed
Bloodthirster is just slightly over-performing as a greedy purchase for winning players. It's proven to be in pretty solid shape for an item and we're happy that players can't easily stack two shields in the same build, but it just needs a small tuning pass. The rule update here aligns it with Absolute Focus, which is nice for consistency's sake so that these effects both leave and return at the same time.
- Engorge Health Requirement for Bonus AD: above 50% health ⇒ above 70% health
Bloodthirster is the ultimate greed item for ADCs who can stay safe and deal high damage from the back line. We're upping its cost to be in line with that role as the item is currently overtuned.
- Total Cost: 3200 ⇒ 3400
With Immortal Shieldbow moving to a Legendary slot for all crit users, Bloodthirster needs a new niche within the life steal item space. So, buying BT is a shot call that you’ll remain healthy and undisturbed on the back line and helps top off your health between engagements
- Total Cost: 3200 (Note: Unchanged)
- Item Recipe: B.F. Sword + Cloak of Agility + Vampiric Scepter + 400 Gold (Note: Unchanged)
- Attack Damage: 55 (Note: Unchanged)
- Critical Strike Chance: 20% (Note: Unchanged)
- Life Steal: 15% ⇒ 18%
- NEW Unique Passive - Engorge: While above 50% Health, gain an additional 10-40 Attack Damage (based on level).
Bloodthirster is meant to be an opt-in defensive option for when you really need the added durability. It's not meant to be rushed so that your ADC can become a tank before everyone else gets their builds online. A flat nerf, especially in the early game, should push Bloodthirster back a slot.
- Shield: 180-450 (180 up to level 9, then +30 per level) ⇒ 100-400 (100 up to level 8, then +30 per level)
- Life Steal: 18% ⇒ 15%
- Shield: 50-320 (levels 1-18) ⇒ 180-450 (levels 9-18)
- Total Cost: 3400 ⇒ 3200

v8.11
v6.14
Now on Twisted Treeline.
Prior to last November’s preseason update, B. F. Sword was too expensive to have a home on Twisted Treeline. The burden of saving for one would have been madness in an environment where marksmen naturally struggled to scale into relevance, so we gave the Treeline its own cheaper, Pickaxe-based alternatives to B. F.’s upgrades. As discussed above, however, things have changed, so we’re now comfortable introducing this suite of items to the Treeline.

Infinity Edge
Essence Reaver
The Bloodthirster
Duskblade of Draktharr
v5.8
It's here!
- "With last season's rework which removed The Bloodthirster's stacking mechanic, our concerns over snowballing were largely assuaged. We're re-adding it to Howling Abyss as part of this patch's pass on the map. "
- [NEW] IS A THING : Is now a thing on Howling Abyss (same stats/effects as Summoner's Rift)
v4.12
Bloodthirster now gives even more life steal and the shield decays slower. The max shield, however, has been reduced, and Bloodthirster's life steal is now unique (to itself).
"We made Bloodthirster a bit generic when we reworked the passive to a shield, because its other stats (life steal and AD) could be nabbed via other items just as easily. These changes are to push Bloodthirster as the sustain / defense item for anyone who wants to pick up AD along the way. As an aside, the UNIQUE life steal on Bloodthirster means you can't stack BTs for +40%/+60% extra life steal, but it'll still stack with any other life steal items like Vamp Scepter, Blade of the Ruined King, Ravenous Hydra, etc."
- LIFE STEAL:
15%⇒ 20% - NEW UNIQUENESS: Life Steal is now UNIQUE
- BLOODY SHIELD:
50 - 440⇒ 50 - 350 - TIME BEFORE SHIELD DECAYS:15 seconds ⇒ 25 seconds
- REMOVED BLOODTHIRSTY PASSIVE: No longer grants bonus attack damage or lifesteal per unit kill
- NEW BLOODTHIRSTIER PASSIVE: Lifesteal can now overheal, granting a bloody shield that absorbs 50-450 damage (based on champion level). This shield decays when out of combat for 15 seconds.
- ATTACK DAMAGE:
70⇒ 80 - LIFESTEAL:
12%⇒ 15% - TOTAL COST:
3250 gold⇒ 3500 gold
- Fixed a bug where the combine cost was 650 gold instead of 850 (total cost is now back to 3200 gold from 3000)
- Combine cost increased to 850 gold from 650 (total cost increased to 3,200 gold from 3,000)
- Attack Damage increased from 60 to 70
- Combine cost lowered from 900 to 650
- Life steal reduced to 12% from 15%
- Life steal per stack reduced to 0.2% from 0.25%
- Now only loses half stacks on death rather than all of them
- Now shows current stats in the tooltip
- Increased life steal from 10% to 15%
- Reduced bonus damage cap from 60 to 40
- Reduced life steal cap from 15% to 10%
