Interview with k0u, jungler of Ninjas in Pyjamas
k0u is one of the European Challenger scene’s biggest stars. He was first on Cloud9 Eclipselogo stdCloud9 Eclipse and is now taking his game over to the Ninjas in Pyjamaslogo stdNinjas in Pyjamas, along with Alex Ich and Voidle, who both have LCS experience. I caught up with him in the midst of the team’s preparation for the Hitbox Challenger Faceoff 2 tournament.

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Tritin Lam. I am 16 years old and live in Norway. I am also second generation Vietnamese. My favorite food is Spring Rolls. I also love FPS and MMORPGS games. I played a lot of CS 1.6 and Warcraft III, and I've always wanted to become good at DOTA, but that game just didn't work out for me. Then LoL was introduced to me. I tried it and it worked out perfectly for me. I've always liked this sort of games, but I always sucked at these games except LoL.

Player you most want to play against?

I would most want to play against [SK Telecom T1 K mid laner] Faker.

Player you most want to play with?

That would be Faker as well.

One champion you wish you could play better and why?

YasuoSquareYasuo - he's really fun to play and I feel like you can do a lot in teamfights, and he requires a lot of skill and understanding of the champion.

How does it feel to be finally pursuing your dream when you become of age to participate in the LCS next season?

It feels good to be able to finally go for my dream instead of waiting another year.

How did Rest in Pepperonis begin? How did you mithy, and Nukeduck find these people and bring together the team for the TSM Invitational?

Rest in Pepperonis began with me and Alex Ich, we wanted to play on a team together, so we had to look for 3 other players. We waited until after relegation was done to see all our options, and since NiP didn't qualify, we decided to approach mithy and Nukeduck.

How is it to play with all these players who have had LCS or even Worlds experience? It is an honor to play with such distinguished players, and I hope to learn a lot while playing with professionals like this.

Has it changed your view on the game at all? Has it made it seem more realistic that you might be able to participate on the international scene?

No, it hasn’t really changed my view. I have always been confident that I can reach the top levels of the game and compete there.

In the beginning, was it very rocky like playing solo queue matches or was it a smoother transition into the team, from C9E to NiP? Did your style immediately fit with the rest of the team?

It was a really smooth and easy transition into the team, we had teamwork and synergy already with some couples of games since everyone knew each other’s playstyle and how we would play. My style immediately fit with the rest of the team.

Have you expected this kind of response from the community about your jungling?

I always expected a response, but I didn’t expect it to be this good, I still feel I have a lot to learn though, and I will keep striving to improve my game.

How have you dealt with the spotlight?

I am more determined to succeed, and live up to the expectations.

Are you still in school? What influenced your decision to stay or not stay in school?

No, I'm not in school anymore. I wanted to go full for the LCS, because in Norway you are allowed to take a year break from school, so I simply used that. If I can’t qualify, I’ll go back to school.

Any thoughts on the EU Challenger scene?

EU Challenger scene right now, is really amazing, because you get to travel to the actual event where LCS players are playing and how it is like to be in LCS. You also get offline experience, so you don't choke on your relegations.

Any thoughts on any other regions in particular?

About Korea - the amount of hours they put into this game every day is insane and shows how motivated they are. That's why they are so good.

Any last shoutouts?

I would like to thank my family and my girlfriend that supports me, my team that wants to have me, and our sponsors that makes this possible, specially thanks to SteelSeries, EIZO and Komplett.

Thank you very much for your time k0u! We wish you and your team all the best in the upcoming EU Summer Challenger Series! For more information about k0u, check his eSportspedia page.
