- The aura increases in size if their users increase in size. It uses center to center hitbox to calculate its range.

Patch History[]
Abyssal Mask is being grown to more clearly look like a good selfish AP juggernaut item while still comfortably fitting in the income tank mold. AoE magic resist shred is more than powerful and unique enough, so we're stripping out the self-only bonus MR that was hard to appreciate.
- Total Cost: 2500 ⇒ 2650
- Haste: 10 ⇒ 15
- Magic Resist: 50 ⇒ 45
- removed Unmake Bonus Magic Resist: Removed
A few patches ago we tried to make Abyssal Mask enticing both for low-income support tanks and for any offensively-skewed income tanks as well. The income tanks are the ones who have shown the most desire to pick it up, so we're embracing them with some changes to make the item even more exciting. A significant boost to the MR shred aura with a moderate increase in price should not only make magic damage tanks happy but also give players an option when they find their team composition is too magic-heavy.
- Total Price: 2300 ⇒ 2500
- Unmake Magic Resist Shred: 20% ⇒ 30%
- Unmake Aura Radius: 600 ⇒ 700
Now let's talk about support tanks. In general we think their items are in a pretty good place overall but wanted to move a few things around to create some more options. Up first is Abyssal Mask. We expect support tanks and magic damage bruisers to be pretty excited, as it provides a lot of teamfight durability and helps themselves and their team deal with MR-stacking front lines.
Through an abundance of caution over this item creating stale AP vs. AP lanes, we're trying to ensure it's a weak rush item for most ranged champions through lower 1v1 gold efficiency and tying its durability more to team fights. It should be very strong in 2x magic damage teams, as % shred will do a lot against MR-stackers. And by no longer tying its aura to bonus health purchases, even supports like Braum can buy this in their second slot and feel like they've got another viable option for empowering their team. Finally, it's becoming unique with Void Staff and Cryptbloom, similar to how Black Cleaver cannot be stacked with Last Whisper upgrades.
- Price: 2400 gold ⇒ 2300 gold
- Magic Resist: 60 ⇒ 50
- Unmake: -8.6 to 25 Magic Resist based on Bonus HP ⇒ -20% Magic Resist
- Unmake radius: 550 ⇒ 600
- Unmake magic resist: 9 per enemy ⇒ 10 per enemy
- new Unique with Void Staff and Cryptbloom
- Health: 500 ⇒ 550
- Combine Cost: 650 gold ⇒ 450 gold
Abyssal Mask is a niche item that has struggled to find its way into builds. Returning Catalyst and its Eternity passive should make it a solid option for those looking for a combination of magic resist, mana, and health.
- Gold Cost: 2700 ⇒ 3000
- Health: 450 ⇒ 500
- Mana: 0 ⇒ 300
- Magic Resist: 35 ⇒ 40
- Ability Haste: 10 (unchanged)
- Build Path: Kindlegem + Spectre's Cowl ⇒ Catalyst of Aeons + Spectre's Cowl
- NEW Passive - Eternity: Restore mana equal to 8% of premitigation damage taken from champions, and health equal to 20% of mana spent, up to 15 health per cast. Toggled abilities can only heal for up to 15 per second.
- Passive - Unmake: Curse nearby enemy champions, reducing their magic resist by 5 + 1.2% bonus health (max 25). For each Cursed enemy, gain 9 magic resist.
Abyssal Mask has taken a back seat to Force of Nature in terms of magic resist options this season. We’re buffing Abyssal Mask’s passive, Unmake, to help it stand out as an aggressive tank option which will help unmake your enemies’ MR.
Last season’s Abyssal Mask was powerful for champs who could use its Immobilize effect, and pretty much those champs only. We've reshaped it to be more of a hybrid offense/defense tool that shines against magic damage comps or large teamfights. It should also be an exciting choice for some AP bruisers and battlemages!
At all phases of the game, Abyssal Mask is getting overlooked in favor of more powerful defensive options. It could use some raw power to compete against its peers.
Patch 10.23
Passive changed to increased damage on immobilized enemies.
Abyssal Mask now has a more streamlined use-case and has been broadened to increase all damage to the target, not just magic.

v8.6
Aura radius decreased; potency increased.
When we moved ability power off of Abyssal Mask and onto Banshee's Veil, we hoped to cement Abyssal as less of a core mage item and more of a tank pickup to boost allied mages. However, the high range on its aura has made it a compelling damage option on mages that also provides defensive value intended for tanks. As a result, we're seeing a lot of mages pick it up as a "get me through mid lane with no interaction possible" item, without paying much of a hit to their late game damage. Shrinking the aura will sharpen the intended user base to champions who want to get up close and personal.

v7.13
Now builds from Catalyst of Aeons instead of Spectre Cowl.
(We’re leading in with a bunch of words about stuff that’s not Abyssal Mask, but trust us, we’re going somewhere with it.) Doran’s Ring stacking had created an unhealthy pattern in lane; waveclear from a distance, get all of your mana back, repeat. However, its removal leaves some tanks feeling like they don’t have items that support their laning patterns at all. Catalyst of Aeons is a solid paradigm for in-lane sustain, but tanks don’t feel great about the items it builds into, especially now that Righteous Glory no longer builds out of it. So that’s one side of things. On the other hand, Abyssal Mask had been underperforming, and we were looking for ways to make it a more palatable item. And that leads us to our changes. Abyssal Mask’s passive is a natural fit for tanks. Tanks need an item that builds out of Catalyst of the Aeons, and we just put the two ideas together to make the new Abyssal Mask.
Name change and icon update to match midseason’s changes.
v7.9
Now a tank item! Health added, ability power removed.
Like Banshee’s Veil, Abyssal Scepter is an item whose passive doesn’t quite line up with its statline. An area-of-effect damage amp is much more appropriate for a durable champion that’s comfortable in the thick of things, but the ability power currently on there makes it much more appropriate for mages. We’re shifting stats around to make Abyssal Scepter the item for tanks who feel comfortable sacrificing raw durability to give their team a bit more damage.
